Course Description:
This course provides law enforcement with fundamental knowledge and overview of characteristics, hazards and availability of synthetic opioids such as Fentanyl within the illegal drug market, as well as hazards associated with clandestine lab production and milling operations. This course is designed to train both patrol officers and narcotics investigators in the identification of Fentanyl, Fentanyl related substances, and common chemical precursors. Personnel are also trained on current tactics, techniques and procedures utilized to mitigate hazards to responders during a synthetic opioid incident. This course also covers planning considerations for personnel to implement within their jurisdictions to include: personal protection equipment selection; methods for presumptive field testing and laboratory confirmatory testing; and local, state and federal resources available. At the end of the course, personnel participate in a table top exercise to explore possible response activities given a mock Fentanyl lab scenario.
